Tenet Announces Piedmont Medical Center Appoints New Hospital CEO
2012 JUL 8 (VerticalNews) -- By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Insurance Business Weekly -- Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) announced that Piedmont Medical Center appointed Bill Masterton as its chief executive officer. Masterton will join Piedmont Medical Center, a 288-bed hospital located in Rock Hill, S.C., effective July 16, 2012. Masterton most recently served as chief executive officer for Coastal Carolina Hospital, a 41-bed hospital in Hardeeville, S.C. Under Masterton's leadership, Coastal Carolina received numerous accreditations and certifications including the Joint Commission Certification as a Primary Stroke Center and Joint Commission Advanced Certification in Rehabilitation for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The hospital also achieved the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence Awards of Excellence for Quality, Distinguished Hospital of the Year by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control in 2011 and Gold recognition from the American Hospital Association for performance measures in Heart Failure and Silver recognition for performance measures in stroke. "Bill is an exceptional leader with a proven track record in hospital operations and development," said John F. Holland, senior vice president of Tenet's Southern States region. "Under his leadership, Coastal Carolina Hospital received Tenet's prestigious Circle of Excellence award in 2012. Prior to serving as chief executive officer at Coastal Carolina Hospital, Masterton served as chief financial officer and then chief operating officer at Atlanta Medical Center, a 460-bed teaching facility in Atlanta, Ga. Before joining Tenet, Masterton worked in a number of hospital financial roles. He began his health care career as a consultant with KPMG Peat Marwick LLP in the Medicare and Medicaid division. Masterton received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Florida in Tampa.
